I guess it's because I learned C on microcontrollers before I used it on the desktop. Until then I had only used BASIC (and Pascal in school).
It's funny how everyone who agrees with me interprets my remarks on C differently.

Yeah. To me, I could see your point more as "visualize the range of possible assembly code for how a compiler might want to transform/optimize the code".
