Electronics peeps, can you drive an LED directly with the output of a passive RC bandpass filter? (with obvious assumptions on input)

You can try it, and it might work, but I wouldn't trust it. If you don't put a resistor in series w/ the LED, the LED is going to have a nonlinear effect on the response of the filter.

Ah, that kinda makes sense. So the Rs in the filter & the series R both need to be tuned appropriately relative to each other and the desired LED current, right?

Still 2 Cs & 3 Rs per LED sounds like a fun way to make a large number of addressable LEDs with just 2 wires.
