Can malicious ad js be fixed (from publisher perspective) by fetching & interpreting it with an interpreter written in js rather than directly executing it in the browser?
Sandboxing it to eliminate the ability to do anything to the visitor's browser.

There has been work on this in the past; don't think it's gone anywhere. I remember something on Douglas Crockford's site ("AdSomething," maybe), seems gone now. And I remember a separate project with similar scope from around the same time.
