Often others ask me how practical it is to learn assembly. Even if you're not writing assembly, it's useful to be able to read it. Reading what your compiler generates is powerful. It gives you insights hence confidence without you having to learn internals of compilation.

Except for subtleties, just read what the compiler generates. This skill isn't x86-specific and lets you pick up new ISAs easily. Use http://gcc.gotbolt.org .
