Is there anywhere to buy non-drm (or drm-removable with existing tools) movies in download & keep form?

As far as I'm aware, the closest to that is just buying discs right now. I'd be happy to be wrong on that though.

Even if that weren't overpriced & high-latency, it requires lots of computer time & manual effort transferring to a useful form.

Agreed. It's an option, but only if you are really, really motivated. Bit of a poor substitute for what you want, which is "give me a DRM-free .mp4 link."

Are there possibly DRM-encumbered downloads where there's existing research on the form of DRM and its removal?

I wonder if "buy" on YT movies, along with a video download browser extension, suffices. (Or "rent" if you want it cheap but not really legit)

I mean, a quick perusal of the torrent sites implies that at least iTunes and Amazon DRM are breakable without transcoding.
