Picture going up to a local pizza shop and saying, "How will you ever do well if you have no plans to scale to be a national chain?!" That's a lot of tech's attitude toward starting a business, and it's really quite silly when you compare it to other industries

This also happened a lot with early Windows software (think UI tweaks, shells/launchers, Norton Utilities, later AV, ...) for the same reasons - their businesses were all new OS features or working around OS deficiencies.

Yeah I agree. It's very much possible to build something that won't get snapped up by a tech giant, but most people just don't do that. It's crazy how many people develop things with the express intention of getting acquired
