As far as I'm aware, the closest to that is just buying discs right now. I'd be happy to be wrong on that though.

Even if that weren't overpriced & high-latency, it requires lots of computer time & manual effort transferring to a useful form.
-
Agreed. It's an option, but only if you are really, really motivated. Bit of a poor substitute for what you want, which is "give me a DRM-free .mp4 link."
-
And they wonder why people torrent...
-
I haven't found anything better yet than buying discs and ripping them either. :-/

Are there possibly DRM-encumbered downloads where there's existing research on the form of DRM and its removal?
-
I wonder if "buy" on YT movies, along with a video download browser extension, suffices. (Or "rent" if you want it cheap but not really legit)
-
I mean, a quick perusal of the torrent sites implies that at least iTunes and Amazon DRM are breakable without transcoding.

GOG, mostly limited to gaming documentaries; and Vimeo On Demand, limited to the kind of stuff you would expect to see on Vimeo. I doubt there’s any legit source for mainstream films, sadly.
