Nothing like an open Neutral, to confuse people. Now imagine it with a three-phase star ('Y') supply, when the N goes open and the nominal single Phase / Neutral voltage (as supplied to UK houses) is supposed to be something like 230V!

I like to explain open neutrals as "okay, your remaining two phases now form a resistive voltage divider, conglaturation".
