It can actually be really hard to disprove a made-up story.
Um, 5 a day? 5 an hour should be easy. These are not plausible stories, they're bs that's trivial to spot.

You can quickly determine that there are no legitimate sources reporting, or for sci/med claims that there's no peer reviewed paper cited.

That just leaves possibility of small local incident stories and such which may be legit but unreported. Those can genuinely be hard.
