This is false. You can obviously implement an interp for a trivial lang without breaking the rule & use that as intermediary.

The idea to write something hideously wrong like T1 x; *(T2 *)&x... does not materialize out of thin air for most beginners. It's taught.

it's more like case TYPE_T: (T*)msg->data; which is easy to UB, and makes sense for, e.g., generic data structures. Not easy to prove type.
