Imagine if Android were dual license GPLv3 or commercial & the latter required device to download official distro with no junk mods.

Android's no gpl in userspace policy is, as far as I can tell, a reaction _against_ GPLv3. They'd go 100% apache first, including new krnl.

Here GPLv3 isn't used as some ideal of freedom but as sufficiently toxic FOSS license to make all vendors opt for restrictive commercial one
