Android's no gpl in userspace policy is, as far as I can tell, a reaction _against_ GPLv3. They'd go 100% apache first, including new krnl.

Obviously they wouldn't/won't do it. It's a thought experiment in how they could be FOSS & make a safe, crapware free platform.

Here GPLv3 isn't used as some ideal of freedom but as sufficiently toxic FOSS license to make all vendors opt for restrictive commercial one

Yeah I don't mean imagine it happening but rather realize how awful Google's choices made the platform vs what it could be.

Agreed. Awful SDK choices too: I don't think I can create a new app project without the bloated Android Studio anymore?

(I mean, not with official toolchain. I can with Cordova or such, but that's not native among other things.)
