One thing WSL is likely to reveal: "Linux is everywhere" not because kernel is so great but because its interfaces have solid hold.

It can just move the mess and often not compatible enough. We used to call them "incompatibility libraries" during STREAMS/Sockets argument.

it's not hard to implement Linux syscalls and make an OS that is largely compatible with Linux-oriented codebases though.
