bash.exe, confusingly, is not bash but the entry point for launching a WSL instance. Better to get in the habit of using wsl.exe, though.
This seems likely false. Bash is not special. You can run distros without bash on WSL.

Actually even wsl.exe runs everything through bash -c right now, so bash is required. Need to change it to use /bin/sh in a future build...
