Dear gcc: "error: invalid operands to binary - (have ‘char *’ and ‘unsigned char *’)" is not an error. It's not even _really_ a warning.

Even in C89 it's a constraint violation: 3.3.6 "both operands are pointers to qualified or unqualified versions of compatible object types"
