Cursive was for fountain pens, which splatter ink if you raise/lower them. Ballpoint pens made cursive obsolete.
Everyone upset about losing cursive should have to spend a year living somewhere that uses a non-Latin script and writes it in cursive.

Arabic you kinda don't have a choice. I was thinking cases where you do, but it'd probably work.

This is the kinda thing I had in mind. Writing systems that have an accessible print form and an inaccessible cursive.

It's almost as if they were checking that the pen worked but they weren't satisfied until they filled the whole page
