let's be clear: do not fucking arbitrarily fetch data from the internet at runtime but DTDs are good dev tooling and namespaces are great

The problem is xml offered a syntax for putting dtd & entity def refs in the data & all the major library implementations honored it...

Expected document structure/how to interpret should be static, under control of process doing the reading, not under document control.

like, namespaces are just strings in my code that happen to look like URLs, I'm not using some Java-esque security nightmare to parse XML
