Wish it was only chargers: http://www.ebay.es/itm/GSM-SIM-Espia-Oculto-audio-voz-Escucha-bug-usb-2-0A-a-USB-Cargador-Datos-Cable-/322620757483?hash=item4b1db215eb:g:AbkAAOSwzT5ZecLv … - That's a USB Cable with SIM and GPS
A tracking device that only works when someone leaves it plugged in several hours seems like it would have limited usefulness...

One of the safer assumptions on a USB charger is that it'll be connected for a while when used. Necessary since it'll be indoors anyway.
-
I don't think so. Lots of ppl just charge enough to use, & newish phones charge FAST (~30min for 15% to 90%).
-
Yet, as you know, the vast majority plug more than half and hour most of the time. Again, not sure what you're arguing here any more. Sorry.
-
I'm not either. I started off skeptical that they did anything at all, then curious about how cheap receivers are implemented...
-
I'll believe you that they exist, but I'm still skeptical that the devices perform acceptably for what people would buy them for.
-
9 bucks. Buy one. Test it yourself. Report back.
-
I work with ones much more expensive than that.
-
So do I, but that's also irrelevant because these are the ones we're talking about and the ones you're skeptical about.

You're talking about it as if we were not seeing twenty variants of it for sale. As if it was hypothetical :) It's right there.
-
I'm skeptical that they work as advertised, especially the cheap ones.
-
Businesses that market to stalkers are not known for ethical advertising.
-
It's advertising what the basic functionality for any GPS plugged into a wall indoors at least 1 hr while would've (*any*, as it's basic)
-
Average person's conception is that GPS gets a fix in <5sec like their phone does. Not after hours of waiting.
-
Average person's conception of GPS is irrelevant for a tracking device planted on a wall charger, though.
-
It can tell you where your target spends the night, which is surely one usage case the intended market would be interested in.
-
But it probably can't tell you where they plugged in at a coffee shop for a quick charge or where they're sitting in the airport.
