      I think the fact that you work in a group of 20 people and don't consider them your team says more about you than software engineering.

      No. It really can't. You can't discuss the details of all your code, it would take 5 times longer. It's a characteristic of the industry.

      Actually writing code has never been more than 20-30% of my hours. The rest is eg requirements research, planning, and emails - teamwork.

      Yes. That's fine. The exact proportion isnt relevant as long as it is a significant proportion. It varies anyway.

      Absolutely agree, and I think this ratio & awareness of it is pretty essential to writing remotely decent code.

      Otherwise you write too much code, it does the wrong thing, & you don't want to throw it out & replace it because you're so invested in it.
