Windows does now provide a great base level of security to virtually all. But public's understanding has not advanced to account for this.

But what's the harm, really? Antivirus rarely _causes_ infection*, and it does help people in some situations. *except NSA/GRU/researchers

But it's time to reframe. The public is routinely scared into installing fake computer supplements that do nothing. Or which are poison.

The public thinks the solution to computer security is in a pill they add to their computer, instead of their lifestyle and consumption.

You routinely hear people ask why their antivirus didn't stop their Facebook or email from getting hacked. (It was through password reuse.)

The media should stop saying "her account was hacked" and say "someone figured out her password", maybe people would care more about theirs

The problem isn't people not caring about passwords. The problem is services actively teaching/forcing use of bad password practices.

For example you should NEVER be asked to enter a password for a service you're already signed into except when trying to change pw.

I'm signed into Google on my phone, but I still happy to confirm password before purchases.

That's a foolish position. You should be able to set a purchase password, yes. Should not be able to use account pw as purchase pw!!
