Why does a Roomba?

Automated cleaning makes sense. [Presumably] outsourcing the nav logic to the cloud so your expensive device is a dumb terminal, no.
-
Wouldn't you want your Rumba to improve based on actual data from users? By providing data, you vote for Rumba bugs that happened to you.
-
If they want to subsidize improvement of their algorithms by harvesting data from us, results should be free & open, collection transparent.
-
Otherwise they should be paying users fairly for the data with a clear contract for what data is handed over and how it might be used.
-
Which software company pays for user data? I’m unaware of a single instance. Not expensive SAP, neither your VISA pays you. It’s radical.
-
That you seem to be using "radical" as something bad suggests we don't have much to talk about.
-
Or am I misunderstanding? Twitter is a notoriously bad medium for this sort of thing..

It doesn't, Roomba bots don't have a network card or camera. I've taken mine apart to repair it.
-
Reportedly newer ones do. The tweet was in response to a report they plan to monetize its mapping of your home.

It's probably to create easy access to your WiFi network for hackers. There are a lot of backdoors like that on products that don't need it.
-
being an IT guy, I know for sure that most companies sell these bugs and backdoor entries to governments and intelligence agencies
-
That's exactly who I would suspect of hacking into something like that too or a teenage hacker just messing around.
-
the fundamental problem is that these companies promise security, while systematically making it easy for systems of power to hack you
-
Vault7 by Wikileaks confirmed all of these claims with documents btw; for ppl who are too naive to believe that
-
I read quite a few of the Vault 7 documents. It's scary as hell. The government needs to mind their own damn business.
-
well goodluck arguing that with CIA mouthpieces in the Media; " they are saving lives and all that crap". how dare u r so unpatriotic
-
It's not exactly a democracy anymore, is it? I think we are seeing firsthand how empires die.

According to
#KellyAnneConway, Roomba's are secretly collecting DNA from unsuspecting Americans while superspy microwaves take random pics.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
