observed that, somehow, BGBCC is beating out GCC wrt size-optimization on SH4 (current: 6% for "-Os", 20% for "-O2", and 40% for "-O0"...).
I suspect you're either generating wrong code or your test case is very uninteresting...

this is with Quake1, could do more testing; granted, I don't know if all the code is correct, as some things in-game still don't work right.

the C library/... is controlled for, as both compilers are using the same C library (a modified version of PDPCLIB). but, yeah, dunno...

OK: it seems the C library was the issue: it was being compiled with -O3 rather than -Os; GCC wins with the C-library built with -Os.
