We used to just drop a chunk of dry ice in the drink to be carbonated and it worked well enough.
That is a great method but it has three issues: 1. Miscalculating may leave you with a burst PET bottle, which is no fun whatsoever
Yeah we didn't do it in sealed bottles. Did it directly in the glass we were about to drink it from.
Oh! Then it doesn't really carbonate all that well, at least for my taste.
I suppose a simple pressure-limiting valve on the cap would make it easy/safe to do in a sealed bottle.

Well the benefit is CO2 source you can get from your local grocery store. But yeah.
Yeah, where's this miracle place I can walk to the grocery store and buy dry ice? Also, you can't store the stuff so have to buy on day?
