Reminder: HTTPS isn't encryption. It's encryption with delivery integrity assurance. The integrity it provides is why HTTP is being killed.

Non-reputable link/no green address bar -> assume NSA/phishing/hackers, do NOT trust files/enter secrets. Reputable link + green address bar -> probably OK, consider adding domain to whitelist. Now if only we can explain what a "reputable link" is...

That works for close family, my mother runs phishing emails by me weekly +1 It's not scalable though, and the really vulnerable people assume facebook validates every link posted there (or links from social media sites are part of the site, got that once).
