Great points. It's also easier with a pie to compare a specific part to the whole. Rather than trying to mentally stack all the bars.
Could simply use a stacked bar graph.
If all you have is noise, then you don't need a visualization. Just say there is no statistical difference.
That's why you plot them with standard errors.
Imagine if they'd also done the trick of starting the Y axis at non-zero too
Is there not a lot of genuine great uses for that? I don't think people that do data analysis as a job refer to it as a 'trick'?
