@RichFelker no it doesn't. It only tells people who already have your number that you're now on signal.
As explained by @violetblue and others, that's a seriously dangerous exposure for a large class of users: DV/stalking victims.

What's to stop the stalker from just sending an SMS to the victims number that they already have?

"Victim started using Signal" is a piece of info that could itself get the victim killed.

Also, don't only think DV. Same applies when an employer or gov't agency sees one of their employees has installed Signal...

I don't want to discourage ppl from using Signal, or encourage them to use totally-insecure crap instead.
