Announcing the existence of a vulnerability, without details, gives users a chance to take precautionary steps to limit exposure.
It may also (greatly?) increase the chances of independent rediscovery, but still in favor for the reason you say.

There are certainly cases where that's true; everything in disclosure is a balancing act, no rule applies to every situation.

There have been times I've avoided any mention of what I was looking at till last minute, due to risk of rediscovery.
