Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

No it isn't. The device has access to the data on the server. The server clearly exists too.

No it doesn't. Input side of session is closed as soon as screen locks.

So the user can't receive a notification that they've received a call or a message? And they type server addr each time?

One-way channel for ring/vibrate commands is kept open. To regain full access, have to auth.

So the phone is even still connected to the server. It's clear it exists. It's not deniable at all.

How is that an improvement for the border crossing case? They will know it exists. Same threats as local encrypted data.

The issue at a border is that they can make demands. Decrypting local data vs. remote isn't really any different.

I get it. You've invested a lot of effort in making the Android trainwreck something with halfway-viable security properties..

If you can get vendors to follow your lead, or become a major vendor yourself, that's great. I'm not holding my breath tho.

You're definitely not going to convince people to move to a less secure, less usable client-server architecture.

Not sure how something worse than the existing baseline solves the problem of insecure products existing either.

Android vendors not updating their devices, breaking the security model, etc. has nothing to do with lack of options...

If you're simply running Android or Linux applications on the other end then 99% of the same stuff applies to it anyways...

Any improved isolation there is totally orthogonal too. It's applicable whether or not this client-server model is used.

it's not a trainwreck. Desktop Linux is way worse and doesn't have a security model at all. You're the one that's biased here.
