Calling latency a concern is a joke when the shitty java apps running on Android freeze for 100s of ms at a time mid-scroll.

With modern (&future!) networks you can have <50ms ping easily, less latency than on-device java apps.

That's hardly true. The ART GC is quite good as is the current rendering stack. Have you used a current Android device much?

Other than needing the whole server, powering the server, having internet access at home (not just mobile plan), etc.

If either the phone or the server lacks internet access, it's a brick. It couldn't conform to regulations without some local UI.

Some local UI can exist, but it shouldn't be programmable or deal with any complex data.
