Like most discriminations, this one is systemic. I RT white men because the tech niche I work in is mostly made of white men.
Exercise to think about: what is the gender & racial breakdown of your RTs over the past year? Of the top-20 ppl you RT most?

This doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome diversity. But I don't specifically *look for* minorities. I often get the feeling you do.
-
More like I'm interested in how representative the views I see and amplify are.
-
I want my concerns to be in perspective.
-
I don't want to be the dumbass who thinks the world's biggest injustice is the FSF's heavy-handed pushing of v3 on GPL users.
-
I don't want to make light of white techie dudes' favorite issues like sw freedom, drm, right to fix, etc...
-
...but I do want to always be reminded of how they fit into a larger picture of inequality and unjust power structures.
-
I wasn't questioning your motives. Just saying you seem to RT more diverse people than most and that's noticeable.

could someone™ write a program to automatically calculate that?
-
Not without an automated way to classify twitter users' gender & race, or asking for manual input.
-
Of course for top-20 you can automate finding them then it _may_ be easy to figure out on your own.
-
Or you may find (as I did in the past) that a large portion of users you follow/RT are ambiguous.

huh I can't even tell my ratio from past week of rts. Good to be aware of though for sure
-
Yeah it's surprisingly hard to tell sometime. You can also catch yourself assuming accts are white & male if not visibly otherwise.
