      ... because at one point in history it was a way of improving data integrity. It's good practice.

      It was never good practice. This kind of validation is a general anti-pattern that never made sense

      More imp, collecting data you don't need doesn't make sense. Gender was never useful.

      There are essentially no non-stupid validations of data about people.
