          couldn't you use cjdns to peer your devices to access the vps securely and work on the go like in the scenario you linked?

          I think you missed the "host servers" part. Need server behind the gw setup to have its real actual public-facing ip.

          sshuttle let's you easily use a vps as a vpn through ssh for all your tcp traffic Not sure if that would help to what you want
