Debian marks C740 as allowing SSD upgrades (22mm x 42mm M.2). It's hit or miss though. Make sure to check Arch / Debian docs.

Chromebooks are generally a lot nicer than Windows laptops for Linux but some of them are a mess (need kernel patches, etc.).

Yes. Eeepcs were my preference though but they seem to be out of production & mine's motherboard is all corroded.

I've had reasonable luck with the Asus Aspire One series, dunno if they still produce it though.
