If news orgs were serious about "fake news," they wouldn't keep catering to it in ad space. The Hill, TPM, HuffPo, Daily Beast all do it.pic.twitter.com/8K5JBloxu6
Yeah, I do @musllibc, FOSS & infosec stuff. But now is not the time for a mostly-/only-tech Twitter feed.

Suggests a solution: big Google pagerank penalty for having fake-news feeds in your site's ad space.
having Google be the Internet Police is not super desirable either tbh
maybe I'm unusual for thinking Google has too much power & cannot be trusted, but they genuinely scare me
No, that's a reasonable view. But having too much power doesn't mean they shouldn't use it for good.
They have the power (and the power to do bad things) whether or not they use it to do good things.
In that regard it's a lot like privilege - with privilege comes a responsibility to twist it and use it for good.
privilege differs in that it can't be abdicated & doing Good w/illegitimately acquired power only justifies it PR-wise
I don't see any way you can abdicate power to influence site exposure while running a search engine.
