I guess; I'm not an EE. I would think too much current over 28 or 30 AWG would yield crap voltage at the device end.

It's worth buying the expensive Anker cables / adaptors to protect far more expensive equipment from pervasive incompetence.

USB C cables from random manufacturers are downright dangerous. The Google employee reviewing the cables had their laptop fried.

Chargers and batteries are even worse than the cables. NEVER use them if they're not from the hardware OEM or a sane company.

If replaceable phone batteries were common, every phone would be a Note 7 disaster from people using sketchy third party ones.

Bonus: there are lots of counterfeits. Amazon happily sells lots of counterfeits and refurbished stuff as new via third parties.

This is exactly why all type C cables need to be rated for 3A. Doesn't fix people making broken cables though...
