Lead-acid batteries seem seriously overpriced vs cost of raw materials and how low-tech they are.

yep, pretty much. the larger 18/20Ah UPS batteries seem best here for Wh/$, but still not really "good" here vs NiMH or LiON.

Really? I thought UPS batts (usually SLA) were all way overpriced & large truck/SUV/boat batts were a better deal.

I am finding small UPS batts (7-9 Ah) for ~$20-$30, and larger 20Ah for ~ $40. 80Ah marine batts usually seen around $200.

granted, it all seems pretty variable, so dunno. for NiMH and 18650 was looking on Alibaba, but prices vary widely.

though, looking, finding similar lead-acid batteries listed for a lot cheaper on Alibaba as well, so dunno...
