idle: for dealing with blackouts, sometimes it would be nice if we had, say, a 24 kWh battery pack. then power through most blackouts...
If you have that kind of battery capacity who needs grid/blackouts? Just charge it off solar.

-
yes, solar could also work. would need to look into the cost and power output of PV panels and similar...
-
I suspect the panels will be dirt cheap compared to those batteries.
-
possibly. quick check, rooftop PV panels seem to go for about $300 to $450 each. seems $1k would give ~ 1kW worth of panels.
-
my looking implies it may be possible to build a 24 kWh bank for about $3-5k if buying cheap cells in bulk off of Alibaba.
-
Confused... are you measuring panels in kWh not kW? And why would you need 24 kW or kWh?
-
panels are in kW, batteries in kWh. would need probably ~3-4 kW worth of panels for a house... (looking, meant NiMH cells).
-
this means, for similar power output, the PV panels and batteries would be fairly comparable cost-wise, assuming cheap batteries
-
buying from US sellers, or lead-acid batteries, would make the cost of the battery bank pretty excessive though (~ $20k).
