OpenBSD software serves as a in-tree proving ground for ideas and APIs, many in wide use now.. others not, i.e: BSD Auth vs PAM.

But OpenBSD code is highly portable, uses POSIX/ISO C functions where possible, works on strict alignment architectures, .. etc.
