There's compulsory licensing so songs get played on the radio (and artists get paid), but not for stuff like netflix. Why is that?
For all songs? In practice only one or two songs from a given album ever play on radio. Same on Pandora. :-(

Yes, but if a DJ wanted to, they wouldn't have to negotiate a contract first. It's a horrible broken system but video is worse.

Radio stations are mostly owned by the record labels. And Pandora has really restricted license terms. :(

Pandora has been crap since about the time they jacked up their price 10x. Same mixes as typical Clear Channel stations.
