Today I actually made use of native gcc running on J2, building quick tests to check SIGTRAP and SIGILL generation.
Actual board. All my work is on actual boards. Plus gcc would take all day on a sim... ;-)

gcc on real board at 50 MHz only takes ~12s to compile trivial programs, which is ~ to loading new remote-compiled bin, but easier.

Which board (that Numato Mimas one)?

I do most development on the
@SEInstruments EVB, but cpu on Numato Mimas builds is equivalent.
