The new version is single-stage, i.e. gcc is only built once, and nothing is installed until the final "make install".

Moreover, the same patched source trees can easily be shared for multiple builds/targets.

In addition, the downloader will now use https, check hashes for release tarballs, and check git-fsck for git checkouts.
