It's incredibly hard to maintain an anonymous account these days. Twitter and Google constantly badger for your phone number.

@RichFelker@internetofshit is this a joke? 2FA is a good thing but also optional. -
@OliverCarle
@internetofshit It's not optional. They lie and tell you the # is just for account recovery but then force you to use it. -
@RichFelker@internetofshit Ugh. You're welcome: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1064203?hl=en … (I will also waive the tech support fee as I do not endorse this) -
@OliverCarle
@internetofshit That does not help when "due to suspicious activity you need to verify your account". -
@OliverCarle
@internetofshit The problem is not "2fa got turned on". It's "service provider feels entitled to lock me out arbitrarily". -
@RichFelker@internetofshit unrelated to phone number concerns, besides phone auth makes it easier to recover account when this happens
-
@OliverCarle
@internetofshit The point is they will lock your acct for nonsense "suspicious activity" if you've given them a phone number.
