@NikolajSchlej It's not about money but control. Does libreboot eliminate all untrusted code between OS and hw? Coreboot doesn't.
@landley @NikolajSchlej @_jmeltzer @damienmiller That's what makes it exciting and disruptive. ;-)

@RichFelker@NikolajSchlej@_jmeltzer@damienmiller if you're going to clone big iron hardware rather than arm, why not just do s390? -
@landley@NikolajSchlej@_jmeltzer@damienmiller S390 is worthless cos no1 uses it on pc. x86 only matters as the well-supported pc platform -
@landley@NikolajSchlej@_jmeltzer@damienmiller And the goal is to use commodity high-perf pc cpus but with non-backdoored chipset. -
@RichFelker@NikolajSchlej@_jmeltzer@damienmiller So you're saying the Vax could be saved with a Microvax. Old tech just needs new wiring. -
@landley@NikolajSchlej@_jmeltzer@damienmiller No, I'm saying to deploy secure hardware to the masses you need to meet them where they are -
@RichFelker So, ARM then. -
@pikhq In some ways ARM is harder because the commodity hardware is SoC's, not a CPU you can plug into a new board/chipset, no? -
@pikhq In any case ARM still has a long way to go to compete with x86 here. Even@alpinelinux is missing key pkgs on ARM. It's 2nd-class. :( - 2 more replies
