My theory is "winmodemification" - moving all the stabilization logic out of hardware and into Windows drivers to cut costs.

@RichFelker also, mass production -> cutting costs. Anything that gets popular drops in quality. -
@laurentbercot Has laptop production gone up significantly in the past few years? My guess would be it's stayed about the same (tablets,etc) -
@RichFelker Not laptop production, but touchpads have become ubiquitous. No more trackballs, clitmice or other peripherals. -

@laurentbercot Well I know the hardware is awful. It's more a question of why mainstream users aren't angry. "Works on Windows" is my theory -
