@stevecheckoway In the caller? Yes, that would be the right thing to do. As for asprintf it's documented to be undefined, and impls. differ.

@RichFelker@stevecheckoway do they really? I'm really only aware of the glibc version + a couple basically-copies of that. It's not POSIX. -
@bofh453@stevecheckoway I didn't check but I was told one of the BSDs always zeros the result on failure. -
@RichFelker@bofh453 OpenBSD's does but they document that it's an OpenBSD-specific thing and should not be relied upon. -
@stevecheckoway@bofh453 In that case you can't rely on the pointer being unmodified if your code might be running on OpenBSD.
