Instead of asking Mesa to become your tlsdesc canary, start by volunteering a distro to switch to gnu2 tls globally, make sure it works smoothly. I've used a source-based distro that way and found bug count to be nonzero (no surprise given zero adoption so far).

Fixing the bug doesn't require tlsdesc; that's just a performance optimization I think they might like since they were concerned enough about GD to use IE...

Do you know what the tlsdesc integration problems hit were though? All I can think is maybe asm source files assuming other models.
