Random thought... any service with bonus/reward points (credit cards, banks, airlines etc.) should offer extra points to users who proactively increase their security posture. For example: "Enable two-factor for an additional 2,000 Delta miles".
Absolutely. It's a cost savings to the company at the expense of the customer.

This is absurd. Zero benefit? Seriously? Have you ever had to help a non-tech savvy user recover from an account compromise, especially one involving a bank account in which money gets stolen? Plenty of time wasted recovering from it and unnecessary stress added.

Some users will benefit. Others most certainly will not. Even if they would, whether the reduced risk of account compromise is worth the increased risk of not being able to login when you need to is specific to each person.
