A tradeoff I'm willing to accept for now. I think specifications are value in their own right.

Perhaps, but I doubt it meets reasonable criteria for what I'd call "viable". And I might be wrong but I think the specs are used for validating the implementation of a function, not for machine-generation of an implementation from the specs, no?

I'm not familiar with it, but I know it's used in NASA for verification. Maybe you're right, but I doubt it. If you imply, that unlike seL4, the compiler is not verified. Perhaps, but I wouldn't call it useless.
