You wait for some important app to like a cryptocurrency matching engine to rely on those counters and then you eat them up right before they have to do a big scaling burst. Then you tamper with the market while the exchange is offline.
You might be able to disrupt a bunch of stuff, but it's still hard to monetize. I won't say there's no way to do it, but it'll be hard.
