So for anyone outside CVille thinking we're being dramatic with our displeasure of the militarization of our town this weekend, I would like to emphasize how bad it actually is. And I will do this the way I know how: WITH NUMBERSpic.twitter.com/inqKceSbWC

Firstly I need to nip this in the bud: I won't be engaging with anyone who comes at me with the premise of "more cops=more safety" because it's demonstrably untrue, and I don't have the energy now to dig up a full year's worth of receipts against the CPD right now

I want to be damn clear about this: CVille right now is so far in the police state that it defies comparison to other events right now, save for other large gatherings of activists demanding justice.

I've been reading sources that say there'll be 1000+ cops in CVille this weekend from the municipal and state level, but I'm going to be generous and assume there's only 800 uniformed cops, because that's the least I've read.

CVille has a population of about 47,000. That's roughly 57 people per cop in town this weekend. Now, to give perspective I think we should compare that number with other metropolitan police departments (you know, in those "crime-ridden" cities everyone seems to be scared of)

We are literally being policed 4-8 times as much as some of the most overpoliced cities in the United States. And for what? Residents who have the nerve to demand an end to institutional white supremacy in town? Give me a fucking break.

And that's if you count the whole city. What are the numbers if you count just the immediate downtown vicinity where all the cops are concentrated?

Replying to @RichFelker
Unfortunately my data has only the city and not specific subdivisions inside it. We’d have to estimate from photos of cops.
